Frequently asked questions

Tell me about PPF

What exactly is PPF and what does it protect against?

Paint protection film is a clear, thermoplastic urethane applied to painted panels to absorb impacts, resist staining, and guard against chips, scratches, and weathering. Modern films are optically clear and designed for automotive use.

How does the “self-healing” feature work?

The film’s elastomeric clearcoat flows at a microscopic level when warmed (sun/engine heat/warm water), allowing fine swirls and light marring to recover—typically within minutes.

How long should I wait to wash the car after installation?

Wait at least 72 hours so the adhesive can build proper bond strength. After that, hand-washing or a gentle touchless wash is recommended; avoid brushes that can lift edges.

Is it safe to use a pressure washer on PPF?

Yes—if you use conservative settings and stay back from edges. Low PSI is the key. We recommend using wide tips and limited pressure; aggressive jets near seams can potentially force water under the film.

Durability

How long does quality PPF last?

Our PPF is backed with a 10-year warranty against defects like yellowing, cracking, bubbling, or delamination.

What does the warranty cover—and not cover?

We warranty all material/manufacturing defects (e.g., yellowing or cracking). As well as any installation imperfections (e.g. lifting edges). Impact damage, misuse, or neglect aren’t covered.

Will removal damage my OEM paint?

When professionally removed film should not harm factory paint; the adhesive bond is far weaker than the paint’s bond to the panel.

Will PPF stop every rock chip?

It significantly reduces chips and etching, but very high-energy impacts can still mark or puncture the film. Damaged panels can be replaced individually without repainting. Although PPF is the closest thing to being bullet proof, it is unrealistic to expect it to be impervious.

Coverage

How long does installation take?

Of course all situations are unique but in general it takes anywhere from several hours to several days depending on coverage, prep and complexity . Expect ~1–2 days for full-front and ~5-7 days for full-body Coverage.

What areas should I protect?

Full Body coverage will always yield the best protection although we have different options to best suite your needs. Common packages: Partial Front (bumper, headlights, mirrors, part of hood/fenders), Full Front (bumper, headlights, full hood/fenders/mirrors), or Full Body where all exposed paint is protected. High-wear add-ons include rockers, door cups/edges, and rear luggage areas.

Is PPF safe over sensors, badges, and cameras?

Reputable shops should template or-trim around radar and camera zones per OEM guidance. As for badges we prefer to remove them before installation and replace them after.

How do you prepare my vehicle before applying PPF?

Every PPF installation starts with a full exterior detail to remove loose dirt and debris, followed by a thorough decontamination wash to strip away bonded contaminants. We then perform a paint-safe polish to refine the surface and ensure maximum film adhesion. This meticulous prep means your PPF will lay flawlessly and perform at its best for years to come.

Maintenance and Options

What maintenance does my PPF need?

We do not recommend taking any vehicle through an automatic carwash with brushes. Weather it be un protected, ceramic coated, wrapped or have PPF. If you care about scratches and swirls then car washes are just too aggressive. We always recommend joining one of our True Maintenance plans to have the vehicle washed with pH neutral soaps, gentle microfiber hand wash and the only water used is filtered deionized water to guarantee no hard water spots. For our DIY clients we suggest mild pH-balanced soaps, non-abrasive washing techniques, ceramic sealants, and avoiding using hard water. With every PPF install we supply a spray bottle of ceramic quick detailer, its a great way to maintain the vehicle.

Can you install ceramic coating on top of PPF?

Absolutely! A Ceramic Coating will make maintenance that much easier. The coating used is specific to PPF but has the same benefits as traditional ceramic coating. Hydrophobic properties, enhanced gloss, UV protection etc.

What about colored PPF—how is it different from vinyl wrap?

Colored PPF combines the impact resistance of clear PPF with color/style. It’s thicker and more durable/long-lasting than standard vinyl wraps, with similar 10-year warranties to clear PPF.

Does PPF change the look of the paint?

Gloss films can increase gloss; matte/“stealth” films create a satin look. High-quality films are optically clear, but finish depends on film type and install quality.

Paint Protection Film Service in Gilbert

Give your vehicle the ultimate shield with premium Paint Protection Film (PPF) by True Detail. This virtually invisible urethane film is designed to guard your paint against rock chips, scratches, road debris, and harsh environmental contaminants — all while maintaining your car’s original finish or enhancing it with a custom look.

PPF acts as a tough, self-healing barrier over your paint. Minor scratches and swirl marks disappear with heat, while the film’s UV resistance prevents paint fade over time. Whether you choose a clear gloss, satin/matte finish, or a bold custom color, PPF delivers unmatched protection while keeping your vehicle looking brand new.

From high-impact areas like your hood, bumper, and mirrors to full-body coverage, our precision-cut installation ensures a perfect fit and seamless edges. The result? Long-lasting protection, a flawless finish, and peace of mind every time you hit the road.

Part of the True Detail Difference

Two weeks after your PPF installation, we schedule a complimentary follow-up appointment to ensure your film is performing exactly as it should. During this visit, we complete the vehicle’s first wash and apply a ceramic sealant formulated specifically for paint protection film. This enhances hydrophobic properties, boosts gloss or satin finish, and adds an extra layer of defense.

Our team inspects every panel for any lifting edges, small imperfections, or installation anomalies that may have developed during the curing process. Clients are encouraged to point out any areas of concern during this appointment so they can be addressed immediately. If any adjustments or replacements are needed, they are handled at no cost. This check-up not only protects your investment but also ensures your PPF is in perfect condition for the years ahead.

How We Install PPF

Every installation starts with a complete preparation process to ensure the film bonds perfectly and delivers a flawless finish. We begin with a full exterior detail and decontamination wash to remove all surface contaminants. Next, we perform a paint-safe polish to refine the surface and create the ideal foundation for the film.

Using precision-cut patterns from industry-leading software, we custom-fit each piece of film to your specific vehicle. Strategic stretching and alignment ensure full coverage with minimal seams and perfect edge placement. The film is then applied using professional techniques that eliminate bubbles, wrinkles, and imperfections.

Our process finishes with a final inspection and curing period, ensuring your PPF looks seamless from every angle and is ready to deliver maximum protection for years to come.

The Highest Quality Material

We believe that protection is only as good as the materials used. That’s why we exclusively work with premium paint protection films from the industry’s most trusted manufacturers. These films are engineered for maximum clarity, durability, and performance, delivering consistent results in both appearance and protection.

Our chosen brands undergo rigorous testing for resistance to yellowing, staining, and cracking, even in extreme climates. Each product we use meets or exceeds manufacturer standards for self-healing properties, UV resistance, and long-term adhesion. By combining the best materials available with expert installation, we ensure that your vehicle receives protection that not only looks incredible on day one but continues to perform flawlessly for years.

Maintaining Your PPF

Proper care is key to keeping your paint protection film performing and looking its best. We recommend gentle, pH-balanced hand washes or touchless washes to avoid lifting film edges. Harsh chemicals, abrasive pads, and automatic car washes with brushes should be avoided to preserve the film’s clarity and self-healing properties.

Every PPF package from True Detail includes a complimentary bottle of ceramic quick detailer, safe on all vehicle surfaces. This product helps maintain slickness, boosts hydrophobic performance, and makes cleaning easier between washes.

For long-term results, we offer professional maintenance plans that include regular inspections, deep cleans, and film-safe ceramic boosters. These services help ensure your PPF continues to protect and look flawless for the full life of your warranty.

Permanent Protection

Our paint protection film is engineered for long-term performance in real-world driving conditions. It resists yellowing, cracking, peeling, and lifting, even under intense Arizona heat and harsh environmental exposure. Every installation is backed by a 10-year manufacturer warranty covering material defects, plus a 10-year installer defect warranty that protects you against issues related to the installation process. This dual coverage ensures that your investment stays protected for the full lifespan of the film, giving you complete confidence in both the product and the workmanship.
