When professionally removed film should not harm factory paint; the adhesive bond is far weaker than the paint’s bond to the panel.
It significantly reduces chips and etching, but very high-energy impacts can still mark or puncture the film. Damaged panels can be replaced individually without repainting. Although PPF is the closest thing to being bullet proof, it is unrealistic to expect it to be impervious.

If you care about scratches and swirls then car washes are just too aggressive. We always recommend joining one of our True Maintenance plans to have the vehicle washed with pH neutral soaps, gentle microfiber hand wash and the only water used is filtered deionized water to guarantee no hard water spots. For our DIY clients we suggest mild pH-balanced soaps, non-abrasive washing techniques, ceramic sealants, and avoiding using hard water. With every PPF install we supply a spray bottle of ceramic quick detailer, its a great way to maintain the vehicle.
